Downsizing, Relocation & Life Transitions

Throughout our lives we will experience several life transitions that offer the opportunity to comb through our belongings and decide which items we value enough to continue on our next adventure. We will work with you to see these downsizing moments as opportunities. These milestones may include:

  • A young adult leaving their parents' house to live on their own

  • Couples getting married and combining households

  • Families relocating to a new city or a smaller home

  • Growing family: welcoming an infant or child and adapting your space to better serve your family as needs change

  • Empty nesters downsizing to a smaller home

  • Seniors moving to a new residence: an apartment, assisted living, nursing home, memory care center or a home of a family member

  • Death of a spouse or parent

These transitions are a chance to evaluate your possessions and decide which ones best fit the story you want to tell: who you are now? who do you want to be? Let's work together using a lens of "gaining" rather than "losing" during this transition. Editing your belongings is not "losing something". It is gaining; gaining an environment that is authentic, calm, inviting and inspiring.

Consultation

After a 15 minute phone conversation we will set up an appointment for an onsite meeting or web conference call. We will ask questions and take photos to gain an understanding of your goals and the project scope.

Plan Development

We will put together a plan outlining objectives for our working sessions together and a project estimate based on your requests. You will review the plan and provide feedback. Adjustments will be made as necessary and the work will begin upon your approval of the plan.

Organizing Sessions

We will work together, or RBK will work independently, to execute the plan in 3-4 hour work sessions. We will provide an action list of items (along with encouragement!) to complete on your own in between our sessions.

Evaluation

This is a 2-4 week period to allow you to get used to your new space and identify if anything needs to be tweaked.
